Brake for Jake

Pause for a moment, Michiganians, and remember one of Ann Arbor's most famous residents, Shaky Jake Woods, who passed away Sunday night at the age of 82. Jake was a fixture around town, spreading goodwill and playing his unique version of the blues, which usually involved a detuned and partially-strung guitar. You'd see him all around town: the Fleetwood, campus, the Bagel Factory. He'd be dressed to the nines, usually in some thrift store approximation of a zoot suit with a wide-brimmed straw hat. Ocassionally, he'd twang out a few hits, like "Fat Bacon" and "Hippy Boy" and then hurry on. He'd always tell you, "I'm on the move!" Ann Arbor won't be the same without him. Rest in peace, Jake.
